North Coast Brewing Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale Secondary Review by D.P.

Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale
North Coast Brewing
ABV – 7.6%
Appearance – Dense,  honey colored.  Looks thick like fruit juice with suspended particles.
Smell – Unusual smell,  almost like carrot juice infused with a bit of honey.
Taste – Sweetness,  again I sense honey.  Everything else is overpowered by the alcohol.  These sensations mellow out and improve a bit further down the glass.
Mouthfeel – A little thick and clingy.
Drinkability – Sure,  it’s drinkable…but….
Notes – I didn’t really like it,  and I’m fairly certain you won’t either.
My call – 2.0

Gilded Otter Alt Bier Secondary Review by D.P.

Gilded Otter Alt Beer –
Gilded Otter Brewing Co. New Paltz, NY.
ABV – ?
Appearance – Looks like a glass of pepsi.  Virtually no head in spite of pouring straight down the middle of the glass.  No brussels lace.
Smell – Smells like toasted coffee.
Taste – Unique sweet coffee-like start,  middle is like toasted grains.  A lovely,  slightly bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel – Mild carbonation,  but smooth and comfortable.
Drinkability – I received a growler,  which didn’t last long.
Notes – Amazingly delicious paired with pepper encrusted dry salami!
My call – 3.5

Sam Adams 2011 Utopias Secondary Review by Z.P & D.P.

Sam Adams
2011 Utopias Bottle #08334
Appearance- Looks like maple syrup. In color, not consistency.
Smell-Smells slightly like a sherry. Sweet, very strong smelling.
Taste- Strong sweetness at the start, the alcohol is present but not overbearing which is surprising, it mellows out to a huge lingering sweetness like a sherry.
Mouthfeel- Thick, but very pleasant.
Drinkability- Small amounts, it is SO enjoyable.
Closing Notes- This is probably the most expensive thing I have ever drank, which for some people might just say this is exquisite based on that.  It is exquisite for so MANY other reasons. The complexity is astounding. The maple flavors really shine through which is just fantastic. I am in awe of this “beer”.
Overall- 5.0

Secondary Review by D.P.
Appearance – Reddish caramel in color,  consistency of a light syrup.
Smell –  Smells of cork and wood.
Taste – Wow!  Maple induced sweetness strikes first with a rush of alcohol assaulting the nasal passages.  Nice mellow lingering aftertaste.
Mouthfeel – Smooth and silky.
Drinkability – Yes!  It’s very exciting.
Notes – Is it beer?  Technically yes,  but if someone poured you a splash without explanation you’d be unlikely to declare,”Mmmm,  now that’s a good beer.”  That said,  however, it is awesome to experience and if you need a special occasion,  Utopias can create one for you.
My call – 4.5

Hoegaarden Witbier Bière Blanche Secondary Review by D.P.

Hoegaarden Witbier
Bière Blanche
ABV – 4.9%
Appearance – Very light straw color,  attractive, zillions of tiny bubbles clinging to the inside of the glass.
Smell – Smells yummy,  yeasty, like expensive candy.
Taste – Delicious,  nice tanginess with hints of spice and citrus undertones.
Mouthfeel – Exquisite.
Drinkability – I highly recommend it.
Notes – I shall fashion a breastplate from ladybug wings and forge a broadsword from 20,000 discarded bottle caps.  I will live in a castle built exclusively of shark teeth and my domain shall be populated by elven folk, beautiful naiads, and mythical creatures.  My faithful steed shall be a triceratops cloned from ancient DNA. Visiting lords shall ache to be seen in my presence and they shall supply me with great casks of Hoegaarden which I shall drink from a chalice made from the petrified egg of a pterosaur and which shall quell the thirst of my countrymen.  I shall decree this the beer of choice and none shall question my judgement.

Redhook ESB Original Ale Redhook Ale Secondary Review by D.P.

ESB Original Ale Redhook Ale
ABV – 5.8%
Appearance – Cloudy medium straw color,  like honey.
Smell – Semi-sour smell,  nothing really defining.
Taste – Uninteresting start,  quick flash of sweetness and bitter finish and aftertaste.
Mouthfeel – Nice.
Drinkability – Drinkable, yes,  but not very interesting.
Notes – I recently met a guy from the future who said he’d never heard of this beer……if that tells you anything.
My call – 2.5

Widmer Brothers Drop Top Amber Ale Secondary Review by D.P

Widmer Brothers
Drop Top Amber Ale
ABV – ?
Appearance – Attractive medium straw color.
Smell – Pleasant fruity smell with sour undertones.
Taste – Not much of a start,  middle seems to resonate with alcohol.  Mild and pleasant finish and aftertaste do a balancing act between bitter and sweet.
Mouthfeel – Nice.
Drinkability – No reason not to.
Notes – Nothing spectacular going on here but a refreshing beverage all the same.  P.S.- I hate dogs on beer labels.
My call – 3.5
